Classes
Class sessions are scheduled each fall (October–December) and winter (January–March). Topics are offered on a rotating basis, depending on membership interest. All classes are held in the Pueblo Room, formerly Craft Room 3 at the Kuentz Recreation Center. A supply list for the class is provided at registration.
Registration for fall classes is usually held in September. Registration for winter classes is usually held in January. Class sessions are 2-1/2 hours in length, once a week, ranging from 4 to 6 weeks. The cost varies with the length of the class.
Please note that classes are for Artistic Hand Lettering Cards and Mixed Media members. If you are a resident of Sun City West, you can join the club on the day of registration; at that time you will pay the membership fee plus the class cost. Please remember to bring your SCW recreation card with you on that day.
Journals
A journal is simply a means to tell a story. It provides a unique way to preserve our personal and family history and to chronicle the meaningful people, places and events of our lives. The story of these events is collected and recorded in a journal. By using acid-free or archival papers and adhesives, we can ensure that our special photos and keepsakes are beautifully and safely preserved.
Artistic Hand Lettering can lend a distinctive flair to journal pages, from the addition of a simple headline to a longer entry that tells the story behind photos or special items through the thoughts, feelings, or recollections of the story teller. This is referred to as journaling, and it offers an individualized and creative way to communicate the special stories and emotions associated with our precious memories.
Journals can be created in almost every size and shape – from small, simple books to larger, more complex ones. Typical memorabilia that might be used in a journal include photographs, family keepsakes or family artwork. Various embellishments, such as stamps, eyelets, brad, lace, or ribbon, can also add decorative elements to enhance the cover or the pages of the journal.
Members can get together at the club to work on their individual journals and to share ideas and techniques. Club supplies are available for use during scheduled journaling sessions as well as during open workshops.
Please note, journaling workshops are incorporated into Mixed Media workshops and typically are scheduled on Wednesday nights. Members are welcome to use club equipment to work on their individual projects during open workshops as well.
